Acupressure is an alternative medicine technique similar in principle to Acupuncture. It is based on the concept of unblocking the flow of one’s life energy (known as Qi  or Chi).  In traditional Chinese medicine, the body is thought to have channels (referred to as “Meridians” )  that form a network in the body through which one’s vital energy flows and a person is more susceptible to pain or illness when the vital energy flow in the body becomes blocked. It is thus important to maintain the flow of energy in the body using acupressure.

Acupressure applies physical pressure to traditional acupuncture points with the aim of clearing energy blockages.  Acupressure Massage is a needle-free treatment. During Dry Acupressure Massage, therapists use their elbows, fingers, and hands to rhythmically compress and stimulate acupuncture points to unblock your body’s energy and restore its flow in the body.

Acupressure Massage works best if clients are covered by a cotton sheet with their shirts and pants removed as this facilitates the focused application of pressure.  Because the treatment focuses on pressure rather than rubbing, very little or no massage oil or cream is used.
